Aquaculture is the growing of aquatic plants or animals for all or part of their life cycles. Aquaculture involves cultivating freshwater and saltwater populations under controlled conditions, and can be contrasted with commercial fishing, which is the harvesting of wild fish. Fishery products are the world's most important source of animal protein, especially for the poor. This book focuses on urban aquaculture.
